Lore fragments unlock in roughly twenty per biome spread across vendor dialogue, boss intros, hidden tablets, and the central Spire lore chamber. Each fragment is a short paragraph of in-world text revealing a new angle of the central mystery. Reading a fragment unlocks it in your lore codex, and collecting all the fragments in a biome is required for the Lore Master achievement. The codex is searchable from the pause menu, so you can revisit fragments whenever you need a recap.
Advantages
Reading every fragment unlocks the central story and gives you the context to appreciate the Royal Apiarist's final monologue. Lore completion also unlocks the Lore Master achievement, which grants the "Scribe" hat — a modest damage bonus paired with a unique visual effect that lets your gun-jumps leave a trail of sparkles. Lore-tablet routes are also an excellent ticket farm, since every tablet room also contains one to two Royal Tickets.
Challenges
Many lore tablets are gated behind abilities you cannot unlock until later biomes, so a single biome pass will miss most fragments by design. Some tablets are tucked into pit hazards or behind hard-mode-only enemies, so reading the lore codex often requires dying several times per fragment. The central story is fragmented and only becomes coherent after you have read at least forty tablets, which takes roughly five hours of dedicated exploration.

Quick Tips
Read every vendor's full dialogue chain — vendors unlock later dialogue options that reveal cross-biome lore and hint at secret room locations. Skipping a vendor's dialogue is the most common way to miss a plot-relevant fragment.
Boss intros reveal a major lore beat before every boss fight. Do not skip them — the intros change after each story milestone, and missing an intro often means missing a codex entry.
Lore tablets emit a faint amber glow when you are within ten meters. Use the glow to detect tablets behind breakable walls or in dark corners; many tablets are otherwise invisible.
The Dewdrop Spire lore chamber unlocks after collecting all seventy lore tablets. The chamber shows the central story in full and is required for the Lore Master achievement. Aim for completion before the Royal Apiarist fight.
Patch updates occasionally add new lore tablets to existing biomes. If you have the Lore Master achievement and a new patch drops, re-check the codex — new fragments may have been added behind previously-visited vendors.
